Candle Walk is a peace rally organized by the community to mark the new Nepal Sambat (Nepali new year), which falls on the new moon night of October. The rally goes through the ancient and artistic city of Patan spreading peace and brotherhood. The candle Walk ceremony also reflects the rich and precious culture which is inevitable part of Nepalese history and immense treasury of tradition and culture.
Rotaract Club is a non political, social, International club registered in Rotary International, Illinois, USA. Rotaract as a part of Rotary consists of the youth who serve and work under its defined four main avenues-Club Service, Community Service, Professional Development and International Service. There are more than 7000 Rotaract Clubs in the world and among which 89 Rotaract clubs are in Nepal. Among all the Rotaract clubs in Nepal Rotaract Club of Lalitpur, sponsored by Rotary Club of Lalitpur is known for its exemplary services to the youth in the field of professional development and community services. Continuing the objective to promote and preserve the culture, Rotaract Club of Lalitpur has taken the opportunity to host the Candle Walk 1135 with support from Rotary Club of Lalitpur with the past experiences of Candle Walk 1125,1126,1127,1129,1131,1132,1133 and 1134 with the theme “Youth for Culture: Preservation and Promotion”.
In the eve of Nepal Sambat 1134 i.e. on 23rd October 2014, Thursday Rotaract Club of Lalitpur is hosting Candle Walk in the artistic place of Patan Durbar square, Mangal Bazar. The main objective of the program is to make aware and enrich the capacities of youth to promote the culture and preserve it. Candle Walk 1135 program is scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm. The program is divided into three sections: cultural program, felicitation and the candle walk rally. The first section starts with various cultural performances from the youth from different communities, promoting their talents to the public. The performers will be acknowledged with the certificates of appreciation for their performance. Then the second sections includes the felicitation for those who has contributed for preserving, promoting and uplifting the cultural and traditional values. This section includes both individual and the organsisation. The last section is the candle walk rally which starts from Mangal Bazar ( The world heritage site) to various ancient and artistic city of patan and concludes at Mangal Bazar again.During the program registration team will welcome the participants with red Tika, Kokha and later Sashes and Candles.
The chief coordinator of the event is Rtr. Bijay Benjankar (President of Rotaract Club of Lalitpur). Deepawali will be done throughout the Patan Durbar Square at the same time.
The main aim of hosting Candle Walk 1135 is to make aware and enrich the capacities of youth to promote the culture and tradition and also to preserve it. And Rotaract Club of Lalitpur is positive that this program will help the youths to recognize their efforts and strengths for uplifting the culture and tradition and mark the statement “Youth for Culture: Preservation and Promotion”.
